On my way to the Hirshhorn museum, I met a young man at the bus stop. He was an inspiring rapper, spewing out lyrics about women are hoes and he’s going to get his paper to have a ranch of hoes, and lifetime of weed. I stood there and listened and wonder, does he think of anything else? Is there anything positive or social issues he could bring to life? I realized that the answer was probably not.
I continued on my journey to the Hirshhorn, where I saw the documentary, created by David Grohl, entitled, Sonic Highways. I have to say I truly loved it, and there was a messages in it, that hit me to the core. One message I found to be truly amazing was PMA (Positive Mental Attitude). To do anything in life you have to have a good attitude, and open yourself up to opportunities that come your way. The message was about the Revolution Summer, and how it was bringing people together for a cause, with a positive message it was also for them to walk out to be inspired. During that time it was about what was going on in South Africa.
We are a product of our environment, and also a product of what we think, what we choose to do. So what environment is really out there? What is the message? Is there really a need for a revolution? I think so. When I watch people, or turn on the radio, I feel there is a loss of a message that needs to be told. I had an opportunity to talk to the talented artist, David Grohl about the subject, and how it seems difficult to get a good positive message out there. He told me to keep bringing people together, and don’t give a fuck what other people say, because people will be stubborn, but keep going. His message hit me like a tons of bricks because it went back to PMA.
I realized that I had to have a stronger PMA, and not care about what other people think, but also let go of whatever doubt I had because that’s like another person trying to stop me, from helping get the message out that we need to be talking about social issues, we need to be aware of what’s going on, there’s people dying, there’s people truly struggling, there’s people out there that need to know there is a world out there outside of hoes and weed, that they can be successful with a good PMA and finding a good cause, that will help to inspire and uplift others.
Now it is time for me to focus my energy more, find where the best positive impact I can make, and keep it going. Thank you David Grohl!
